11 Dhul Qadah 1446 AH, delivered by Sheikh Abdur Rahman As Sudais
Conscious and Enlightened Awareness of the Importance of Societal Security
In a time filled with chaos and darkness, amidst escalating events and deepening crises, the issue of societal security emerges as a critical necessity and urgent priority. It is one of the primary foundations of stability, civilization, and prosperity.
Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was the first to pray for security before sustenance, as mentioned in the Qur’an:“My Lord, make this city secure and provide its people with fruits.”
He prioritized safety over provision because security is essential for every other aspect of life. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever among you wakes up safe in his home, healthy in his body, and has his daily sustenance, it is as if he possesses the entire world.”
Islamic Sharia came with a comprehensive approach to achieving security and peace. It promoted faith, monotheism, moderation, and balance, while warning against extremism and negligence. Through this, it emphasized discipline, harmony, and the preservation of values and systems in every aspect of life.
Security is among the universal human concerns that all people and nations strive for, and it is achieved only through adherence to divine teachings, wise leadership, and sound laws. A secure nation allows its citizens to enjoy prosperity, stability, and dignity.
Among the most critical forms of security is intellectual security—protecting minds from deviant ideas, misleading ideologies, and malicious influences. Mental awareness is essential to confront modern challenges, especially those spread through digital and AI platforms.
The sermon warns of cybercrimes, misinformation, and fraudulent Hajj campaigns. It calls upon citizens and residents to cooperate with authorities to preserve societal peace and report suspicious activities. Societal awareness is the first line of defense.
The Imam also emphasized the need for unity and solidarity among Muslims, especially in facing crises and global upheavals. He urged youth to be a shield against harmful influences and to uphold the noble identity and values of the Muslim Ummah.
Against rising criminal networks, the Imam called for firm and wise responses, particularly against those who produce fabricated videos, incite rebellion, promote lies, and engage in fraud. These acts threaten societal cohesion and should be decisively confronted.
He concluded by praising Allah for the great blessing of security in the land of the Two Holy Mosques, saying:
“Do they not see that We have made [Makkah] a secure sanctuary, while people are being taken away all around them?”
He reminded the audience that maintaining security is a shared responsibility and a divine command.
