Sheikh Ahmed Bin Talib Hameed No Longer Listed Among Imams of Masjid An Nabawi

Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Talib Hameed’s Status at Masjid An Nabawi

Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Talib Hameed is no longer listed among the official Imams of Masjid An Nabawi. His absence from leading prayers during the last ten nights of Ramadan 1446 was initially noted by visitors and observers at the Prophet’s Mosque. At the time, no official statement was released; however, multiple sources indicated that the Sheikh had stepped aside for personal reasons.

The matter was clarified during an operational meeting held at Masjid An Nabawi on 8 May 2025 (10 Shawwal 1446), where a presentation by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques listed ten current Imams—down from eleven—marking Sheikh Ahmed’s omission from the roster. This quiet form of acknowledgment has precedent; a similar update occurred last year during a meeting for Masjid Al Haram, confirming the silent departure of Sheikh Yasir Ad-Dawsary, who was later reappointed through official channels.

It is important to note that the General Presidency rarely issues public statements regarding the dismissal, resignation, or extended leave of Imams. As such, no direct confirmation or detailed explanation is expected in this case either.

At present, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Talib Hameed is not among the active Imams of Masjid An Nabawi. While a return remains possible—as seen in previous cases—his current status has been clarified through verified developments. This report aims to address speculation and provide accurate information regarding the Sheikh’s position.
